Employee Entitlement Interpretation

Central to Zambion is its unique real-time Employee Entitlement Interpretation Engine. Primarily used in the Timesheet and Rostering areas, this engine is responsible for automatically calculating allowances, shift loadings, ordinary hours, overtime and so on that staff are entitled to. Just enter in the start and end time and Zambion will work out the rest! Having automated rules set to run will not only significantly reduce payroll calculation errors, but will save you both time and money - which many of our customers can attest to! In addition to this, our powerful Employee Entitlement Interpretation engine is able to show you the cost of a roster in real-time and advise the cost of an employee to work a shift when using our Staff Finder Tool.

Public Holiday entitlements such as Time and a Half and Lieu Days are automatically calculated, cross-checked and applied in Zambion in line with the NZ Holidays Act.

Meal Allowances can automatically be applied based on set criteria such as amount of overtime worked, requirement to work on weekends or nights, or working over fixed times such as 7pm.

The engine can apply multiple Shift Allowances based on the time of the shift worked such as Night Shifts, Weekend Shifts etc.

Zambion can automatically apply tiered Overtime payments based on the number of hours worked, weekends, as well as working past fixed times like 10pm.

Our Employee Entitlement Interpretation engine can handle even the most complex Special Allowances with multi-layered rules able to be applied automatically in the background.

No matter how complex your Collective Agreement or Individual Employment Agreement requirements are, Zambion's ultra-smart Employee Entitlement Interpretation engine can automatically calculate and apply multiple levels of allowances and shift rates and rules to align with your Agreement conditions. An example of just some of the types of rules that can be applied can be found below:

Zambion's Employee Entitlement Interpretation takes away all the stress of manually determining who is eligible to receive Public Holiday entitlements and what those entitlements are. In accordance with the New Zealand Holiday's Act, Zambion will automatically apply Time and a Half payments to employees who work on a Public Holiday and it will look back at historic work patterns and the base roster to determine if it is an otherwise working day and apply a Day In Lieu if applicable. For example, if a certain type of Public Holiday fell on a Monday, Zambion will look back and check if this person has worked at least five of the last eight Monday's and will automatically apply the correct entitlements. This intuitive functionality means you don't have to do any more manual cross-checking and calculations for Public Holidays!

Overtime rates are able to be accurately applied and tailored to match Collective and Individual Employment Agreement requirements. For example, you may have a rule that where an employee is rostered to work an ordinary shift, no overtime rates shall be applied until the completion of 8 ordinary hours. After the completion of 8 ordinary hours the first two hours of overtime are to be paid at time and a quarter and any additional overtime after that is paid at time and a half until the end of the shift is reached. Our Employee Entitlement Interpretation engine can easily and automatically handle any number of overtime and penal rate requirements.

Multiple Shift Allowances can be applied based on the time of shift worked, so for example if an employee is required to work a Night Shift, Zambion can automatically apply a shift allowance of $1.00 per hour for any hours worked between the time of 20:00 hrs and 22:00 hrs, $1.50 per hour for any hours worked between 22:00 hrs and 00:00 and $2.00 per hour for any hours worked between 00:00 hrs and 06:00 hours etc. There is no limit to the complexity of Shift Allowance rules that Zambion can handle.

Special Allowances with complex requirements are able to be applied such as; any employee who does not receive a 10 hour break between rostered shifts shall be paid an allowance of 33% of their ordinary rate. This allowance shall be paid for all hours worked until the employee completes their next 10 hour break. This is just an example of the type of rule that Zambion's powerful Employee Entitlement Interpretation engines can easily handle.

Zambion's Employee Entitlement Interpretation can be set to trigger if certain conditions are met. An example of this can be used in determining holiday entitlements such as where an employee has a certain type of holiday on a Monday, they must have worked at least five of the last eight Mondays to trigger an additional entitlement for the holiday. Having these types of triggers in place substantially reduces payroll errors and time spent manually determining employee eligibility.

Meal Allowances can be applied to match your shift requirements. For example, where an employee is required to work overtime following a rostered shift, a Meal Allowance can be applied after the completion of one hour of overtime, then further meal allowances can be applied after the completion of each four hours of overtime, until the end of the shift is reached.
